Supporting the regulation of blood sugar levels... Product Description: This formula is designed to assist with regulation of blood sugar levels through improving insulin action and cell sensitivity. Product Details: B vitamin complex is an essential component of this formula. It comprises 8 water-soluble vitamins which play crucial roles in cell metabolism and therefore may be important in regulating blood sugar levels. B vitamin complex include Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Folate, Biotin and Pantothenic Acid. Choline bitartrate and Inositol are also included because they are intimately involved metabolic processes. Choline is needed for the synthesis of cell membrane phospholipids and other compounds. Inositol is the basis for a number of signalling and secondary messenger molecules. PABA is an intermediate in bacterial synthesis of Folate and is an important metabolic nutrient. Preliminary work suggests that Vitamin D may be able to improve glucose tolerance in some diabetics. Zinc is known to play a role in insulin action. Much recent attention has been focused on the potential of Chromium in blood glucose control. It is thought that it works by potentiating insulin. One proposed mechanism involves increased insulin binding, increased insulin receptor number and increased insulin receptor phosphorylation. Research in animal models suggests that Cassia Cinnamon stimulates a baseline insulin release, but does not seem to lower baseline glucose levels; however, during a glucose tolerance test, cassia cinnamon seems to stimulate insulin release and also significantly lowers blood glucose. Some evidence suggests that Vanadium can mimic the actions of insulin, possibly by causing phosphorylation of insulin receptor proteins. Manganese is an essential nutrient that acts as a cofactor in several metabolic and enzymatic reactions. The Milk Thistle constituent, Silymarin, taken 200 mg three times daily for 4 months, in combination with conventional treatment, appears to significantly decrease fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides compared to placebo in patients with type 2. Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Diabetes are both risk factors for cardiovascular disease and therefore ingredients are included to address this risk. Vitamin A (in the form of Beta-carotene) may be important in preventing LDL (bad cholesterol) from becoming oxidized and hardened in the arteries. Vitamin C is arguably the most important water-soluble biological antioxidant. It can scavenge both reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species and may also have anti-atherogenic, and antihypertensive action.
