This multivitamin starts with a good dose of water soluble vitamins, which cannot be stored in the body.  This includes Vitamin C which is arguably, the most important water-soluble biological antioxidant. It can scavenge both reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species and helps support the activity of other important anti-oxidants such as Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Carotenoid complex. We boosted this multivitamin with a B vitamin complex comprising of 8 water-soluble vitamins which play crucial roles in cell metabolism; these are Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Folate, Biotin and Pantothenic Acid. Choline Bitartrate and Inositol are part of this mix because they are intimately involved metabolic processes. This also contains high levels of Vitamin D3 and Vitamin E not typically found in traditional one-a-day multivitamin to provide anti-cancer resilience and cell membrane support. A wide selection of minerals is also included with special attention paid to increasing the levels of Magnesium, Chromium, Manganese, Zinc and Vanadium. In particular, the Chromium is included to assist in normal carbohydrate metabolism, while Zinc provides that essential element critical to a wide range of biological roles. Magnesium especially, plays a vital role in carbohydrate metabolism and those with issues in blood sugar control are often found to be deficient in this important mineral. Alpha-Lipoic Acid is a unique nutraceutical addition to this multivitamin because of its renowned potent biological antioxidant activity, antioxidant recycling ability, mild glycemic lowering effects and role in enhancing energy production. It has demonstrated some anti-atherogenic effects in both animal and human studies and demonstrated the unique ability to get into cell membrane spaces where other traditional antioxidants such as Vitamin C and E cannot reach. The amino acid L-Glutamine is involved in energy production and, if necessary, the production of D-glucose and glycogen. L-glutamine is considered an immune system nutrient, and supplemental L-glutamine is used in medical foods for such stress situations as trauma, cancer, infections and burns. Finally, Milk Thistle Extract and Cinnamon Bark Extract are botanical components included to provide a little extra protection. Milk Thistle is a well known herb known for its liver protecting and liver cell regeneration properties, however more importantly the active ingredient, silymarin is reported to decrease insulin resistance. Cinnamon is traditionally used to kill certain bacteria and fungi and to improve digestion, however recent studies suggests the cinnamon bark constituent, methylhydroxychalcone polymer (MHCP), might improve insulin sensitivity as it seems to mimic insulin activity, and stimulates glucose metabolism. It also appears to work synergistically with insulin, possibly by improving insulin's effectiveness' and thus promote increased cell glucose absorption.
