This formula starts with the classic nutrients Vitamin A in the form of Beta-carotene and a good dose of Vitamin C. Beta carotene has demonstrated positive effects in the immune system, and in laboratory and human research it appears to have immune enhancing and anti-mutagenic effects regardless of any vitamin A activity. Vitamin C is well known for its antihistamine activity and may well protect against asthma and other obstructive lung diseases, as well as protect the airways against the effects of allergens, viral infections and irritants in some people. To this formula, two important nutraceuticals are added. Early MSM clinical evidence suggests that this unique compound might relieve some symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, and it may have further anti-inflammatory activities as well. To complement it is a generous serving of Quercetin for its anti-allergy and immune system balancing ability. Quercetin is one of several flavonoids that have effects on mast cells and basophils (cells involved in allergic reactions) and so might be useful in some allergies, such as hay fever. Quercetin can help prevent the release of histamine and other biochemicals involved in allergic reactions, possibly by stabilizing those cell membranes so that they are less sensitive to allergens. Botanicals medicines such as Bromelain, Boswellia Serrata, Cinnamon and Stinging Nettle provide added support to the formula. Some researchers think that stinging nettle might be beneficial for allergic rhinitis due to it anti-inflammatory abilities and mast-cell stabilizing effects while decreases histamine release from cells involved in the allergic reaction. Boswellia extracts contain anti-inflammatory compound called elastase, which is the likely instrument for its anti-inflammatory properties. It might inhibit the biochemical intermediaries of autoimmune disorders while stabilizing mast cells, which means this plant extract could be useful in cases of allergy induced asthma. Finally the volatile oil from the cinnamon bark contains compounds that seem to have antibacterial, immune system modulating, and antioxidant activity as well.
