Milk Thistle Extract may protect the cells of the liver by blocking the entrance of harmful toxins and helping remove these toxins from the liver cells.  This is due to activity of the flavonoid compound Silymarin.  As with other bioflavonoids, Silymarin is a powerful antioxidant and has also been shown to regenerate injured liver cells.  Some researchers theorize that Cayenne constituens may have gastroprotective effects. Preliminary evidence suggests that Cayenne protects against alcohol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) damage to the gastric intestinaI mucosa. This has also led to the hypothesis that Capsaicin might decrease the risk of peptic ulcer disease. Betaine Hydrochloride maybe useful in aiding the digestive process and may act as a lipotrophic compound which  prevents the deposition of fat in the liver.

Bromelain is a general name for proteolytic enzymes obtained from the stem and fruit of the pineapple. Proteolytic means that it is capable of digesting protein.  It also contains constituents that interfere with the growth of malignant cells and inhibit platelet.  It is thought that the 6-gingerol constituent of Ginger is responsible for its anti-nasuea properties.  The predominant anti emetic action of ginger is localized in the GI tract, but there is some evidence that ginger constituents may also have central nervous system (CNS) activity.

Warnings:

Bromelain may cause increased bleeding for those taking anti-platelet drugs.
