COLON HEALTH
[CW00029]

Addresses colon health...

Product Description:

This formula addresses several aspects of colon health including bacterial colonization, colonic motility and protective mucilage production.

Products Details:

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a type of bacteria found naturally in the human gut.  Taking lactobacillus orally may with help re-colonize areas of the body where they normally would occur.  It seems to provide nutritional benefits including inducing growth factors and increasing the bioavailability of minerals. In addition Lactobacilli stabilize the mucosal barrier and decrease intestinal permeability.  It can be used in the treatment of different types of diarrhoea including anti-biotic associated, travellers and Clostridium difficile.

B vitamins (Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Inositol and PABA) work synergistically to promote cell growth and division and enhance immune and nervous system function which may be important for colon health.

There is some evidence suggesting that L-Glutamic acid, in addition to serving as a metabolic fuel for enterocytes, might play a regulatory role in the intestine, affecting cell proliferation and differentiation The gastrointestinal tract is one of the largest utilizers of Glutamine in the body  and depletion of Glutamine can result in atrophy, ulceration, and necrosis of intestinal epithelium, therefore supplementation may be beneficial for colon health.

Flaxseed is a good source of dietary fibre and can act as a bulk forming laxative which may be useful in the treatment of constipation. The use of Slippery Elm internally can cause reflex stimulation of nerve endings in the GI tract, leading to mucous secretion which may protect the GI tract against ulcers, excess acidity, etc.  Ginger Extract has anti-nausea properties, its predominant anti-nausea action is in the GI tract, but there is some evidence that ginger constituents may also have central nervous system (CNS) activity.  There is some limited evidence that Omega-3-fatty acids may be helpful in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disorder however more work needs to be carried out on this.
