The Carotenoid family is fundamental to eye health and includes Vitamin A, Lutein and Lycopene.   These are included in large quantities as part of this formula. Higher intake of Lutein is strongly associated with decrease development of macular degeneration. Epidemiological studies also suggest a reduced risk of developing severe cataracts in people consuming higher amounts of Lutein in their diet.

Quercetin has been reported to reduce capillary fragility, and may offer some protection against diabetic cataracts, possibly by inhibiting Aldose Reductase in the lens.  Oral Bilberry Fruit seems to improve retinal lesions from diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy.

Grape Seed Extract contains Proanthocyanidin which might help decrease ocular stress from glare. Preliminary research suggests it may also be beneficial for improving night vision.  Chlorella is a single-celled, freshwater green alga, also referred to as seaweed.  In vitro and animal research indicates that substances in chlorella might have anti-tumor, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activities.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid is both water and fat soluble and can regenerate endogenous antioxidants, such as Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and Glutathione, and prevent oxidative damage.  Selenium is also an important part of the anti-oxidant system. At plasma concentrations below 1000 mcg/L, selenium activates glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), which reduces oxidative stress by handling free radicals and hydrogen peroxide.

Vitamin B Complex includes Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Pantothenic acid, Choline Bitartrate, Inositol and PABA.  It works synergistically to promote cell growth and division and enhance immune and nervous system function which is vital for good eye health.
